Day 11: Burton Marina and Lichfield

Hi everyone!  I hope you're doing well.  :)

First thing's first, it's my parent's anniversary, so if you haven't wished them a happy anniversary, get on it!  Today was a history-filled day, but enjoyable history, not to worry.  We ventured from our Wychnor apartment to the village of Burton and found their marina which held the canal boats.  Along the dock, there were tons of cute little shops, bakeries, cafes, and who knows what else.  We peeked into an adorable vintage shop storing cooking supplies, kitchen necessities, (necessary for me anyways...) and decorations fit for my adorable future apartment.  I wanted everything.  Then, we headed into a cafe called The Apple Tree who claimed to have won "Best Hot Chocolate in the UK."  Obviously, I had to make sure they weren't advertising falsely, so I peeked in and ordered one and my mom grabbed herself a latte.  I was not disappointed.  We also met a cute little elderly couple who had strong opinions about the downhill slant of the glamour of New Orleans.  One of my favorite quotes was the nice little lady saying, "It doesn't cost any money at all to be nice to people!  Say hello, chat for a bit, and say goodbye!"

We then left the marina to check out the town of Lichfield.  We pulled into the parking lot of the University and found out through a nice woman passing through that we absolutely could not miss the cathedral.  Supposedly, that is the little town's claim to fame.  We took a walk through the street filled with shops and restaurants, my mom and I peeked in a few stores while Tony and my dad went on ahead to get a beer and muffin at a cafe up ahead.  I found a pair of shorts at one of the thrift shops that I bought. (Score!)  Next, we headed to Saint Mary's church where a museum had been installed inside.  We took a look in the museum and although there were more wax people (again, how are those at all appealing??) the information and architecture were both wonderful.  We then headed over to the famous cathedral and found out why it was famous.  Because WOW, that's why!  It had over-the-top detailed architecture in the arches, points, and even just the doorways.  Inside, it housed many statues paying tribute to Saints and Pastures from decades ago.  The cathedral was build all the way in the year of 715!  One of the volunteers told us the legends and stories of how the cathedral and artifacts came to be.  It was actually amazing.  After that, it was time to head home and say goodbye to the cute little town.

Once we got back, we headed over to the lobby of the country club we're staying at and joined in for the tea and crumpets they were supplying.  We visited with some of the staff and with a group of people also from California, what are the chances?  When one of the staff members heard it was my parents anniversary, they started a round of "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow," t'was quite nice.  When we opened the door to our apartment, we found that the Country Club Staff had left my parents a gift of chocolates and wine on the table for their anniversary!  How nice.  It was a lovely end to our day.  Now, my parent's are outside on the patio eating dinner (oops I mean supper!), I'm sitting on the couch talking to a friend, and Tony's upstairs watching a movie.  We're all about to leave to watch a magic and singing show, how do those two go together?  To be determined.

Thank you for reading!

On the dock at the marina

Shop hunting!

There was a little part in the cathedral where you could light a candle for the people in Nepal.

Found my future car!
