Day 17: Rijksmuseum and Tea

Hey everyone!

Today, we headed out early and found our way to the Rijksmuseum, the museum of middle-age to present day art and history.  We wandered around and looked at the amazing masterpieces, sketches, sculptures, and exhibits.  It was so great to see all of these famous, and not so famous pieces.  We learned more about the history we already knew too.  After the first floor, we stopped and grabbed lattes and then headed on to the next two floors.  GUESS WHAT I SAW.  I saw a Van Gogh.  I saw a Monet.  I saw a Rembrandt.  Not even joking.  I could not handle myself.  (Those of you who know me know that I'm really into art.)  I panicked a bit.  We actually spent four hours in the museum!  It was impressive.
On the way home, the five of us stopped for lunch at a Pancake (Pannenkoek) restaurant, it was the best.  Nowhere makes pancakes like Holland does.  After that, we headed back to meet up with a Dutch cousin, Huib.  We had a nice visit with him, which, of course, entailed tea and cookies.  Duh.  It was fabulous to hear about his kids, who are now in college, and his wife!  The last time we'd seen Huib was seven years ago during our last visit!  He came from Germany to visit, it was great.  After we walked him back to his car in the garage he'd parked in, we took a look around a mini mall-type thing.  It had really cute hipster-y shops and a food court that was similar to the food-truck festivals we have in Elk Grove.  We hope to come back another time, it was really fun!

Hope you enjoyed!
