Day 18: Van Gogh and Nine Little Streets

Hello ladies and Gentlemen!  I hope you are having a marvelous time doing your current day's activities.

Today was a very exciting day, friends.  We all left the house around nine after a quick breakfast.  We walked down to the same area that we visited for the Rijksmuseum and went to the *DUN DUN DUNNNN* Van Gogh Museum!  I was extremely excited.  It was really amazing, having read two biographies of the artist in my time, there was still a lot I didn't know about his life.  Still, that didn't stop me from shoving my art facts in everyone's faces.  We saw amazing famous works such as the sunflower painting and all of his self-portraits, saw the works that inspired him in the beginning of his career, and he art inspired by him after his time, and the letters he wrote to his brother, Theo, and the rest of his family.  The museum did a fabulous job of explaining the origins of the paintings and what inspired them.  Van Gogh was an introvert, but still a very smart guy, from what we heard.  We spent a few hours in the museum before going to the gift shop, where I found a sunflower notebook and an Amsterdam bike bell, and Tony found a postcard.  Afterwards, we were all starving, so we found a little walk-away restaurant where my mom and Grootje got some ham and cheese sandwiches, Tony got a hamburger, and my dad and I got hot dogs.

After our Van Gogh experience, we headed over to what's called the "Nine Little Streets."  It turned out to be really cute, it literally is nine little streets of boutiques and shops that kind of give you a real Holland feel for shopping.  We peeked into a thrift shop, some antique stores, and whatever else looked good.  I did find a cute pair of vintage-y looking sunglasses, other than that, we just enjoyed the atmosphere.   I made a friend with the doggy that lived in one of the shops and I never wanted to leave.  SO CUTE.

After the shopping, we all came home and just relaxed for the night.  My dad read in his room, I read on the roof, and my mom, Grootje, and Tony all watched a movie downstairs.  It was a lovely day and evening.

Thank you for reading!

-Sophia :)

Ps. We couldn't take pictures in the museum, but here's a couple from shopping:

Tony found a fresh Stroopwaffle!

My new buddy

We thought that little table was a fabulous idea

"Leapfrog over the pole" Grootje said, "It will be fun" she said.  Little did we know how many times I would trip.
